Consumer Unit Replacement Service (Standard)

£775.00*

Replacing an old fuseboard with a modern RCBO consumer unit provides improved safety, reliability and compliance with the latest edition of the wiring regulations. Our service removes your existing outdated fuseboard and installs a new consumer unit fitted with individual RCBO protection for each circuit, combined surge protection and fire-rated enclosure for enhanced safety.

What the upgrade includes
  • RCBO protection: Each circuit is protected by an RCBO (Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent protection), delivering both earth-fault (RCD) and overcurrent (MCB) protection per circuit. This reduces nuisance trips and ensures faults are isolated to the affected circuit only.
  • Surge protection: A dedicated surge protection device is fitted to help safeguard sensitive appliances and electronics from transient overvoltages caused by lightning strikes or power surges.
  • Fire-rated enclosure: We install the new consumer unit in a fire-rated enclosure designed to provide additional containment in the event of an electrical fire, helping to reduce the risk of fire spreading from the distribution equipment.
  • Compliance with the latest wiring regulations: All work is carried out in accordance with the current edition of BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations), ensuring your installation meets statutory safety standards.
  • Professional installation and testing: Our qualified electricians will install the consumer unit with care and attention, complete all necessary wiring checks and electrical testing (insulation resistance, continuity, polarity, earth fault loop impedance, RCD testing, etc.), and provide required certification on completion.
  • Tidy, considerate service: We take pride in our workmanship, leaving the area clean and explaining any changes to your circuits and how to use the new consumer unit.

*Representative price excludes VAT. Standard package = a single consumer unit between 5 - 11 circuits. Other external factors may apply that may effect the final quote amount.

Consumer Unit Replacement Service (Small)

£625.00*

We offer consumer unit (fuseboard) upgrades tailored to smaller properties. If your home has a compact electrical layout or a smaller current unit, we’ll provide a neat, compliant installation that meets current safety standards without unnecessary disruption.

What we do and when it’s suitable

  • Install RCD protection and appropriate MCBs for ring circuits, lighting, and any dedicated circuits (e.g. cooker, shower) as required.
  • Reconfigure and label circuits clearly for ease of use and future maintenance.
  • Test all circuits after installation and provide a certificate of compliance.
  • Suitable for small homes, flats or cottages with fewer circuits and lower overall load.
  • Most upgrades for smaller properties can be completed in a day. We tidy up and remove old equipment on completion.

Electrical Testing & Landlord Inspections

Testing Certificates (EICR's)

When you request an electrical safety certificate for your home, you're asking for an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). Think of an EICR as the electrical equivalent of a car MOT test. Just as an MOT ensures your vehicle is roadworthy, an EICR ensures your property's electrical system is safe and compliant with current standards.

During an EICR, our qualified electricians thoroughly inspect and test your electrical installation. The outcome of this inspection will fall into one of two categories:

  • Satisfactory: This means your electrical installation is in good condition, and no remedial work is required. Your system complies with current regulations, and you can rest assured that it is safe to use.
  • Unsatisfactory: This indicates that some aspects of your electrical installation do not meet current standards and require attention. The report will detail the specific issues, and our team will provide recommendations for necessary repairs or upgrades to bring your installation up to code.

Ensuring your electrical system is safe and up-to-date is crucial for the safety of your home and its occupants. An EICR is an essential step in maintaining that safety and peace of mind.

Fuseboard Upgrades

Fuseboard / Consumer Unit Upgrades

Keeping your home’s electrical system up to date is essential for ensuring safety and efficiency. In the UK, many properties still have old fuse boards (also known as consumer units) that do not meet modern standards. Upgrading to a modern consumer unit is crucial for several reasons:

  • Enhanced Safety: Modern consumer units come equipped with Residual Current Devices (RCDs) and Surge Protection Devices (SPDs). RCDs offer life-saving protection by disconnecting the electricity if a fault is detected, thus reducing the risk of electric shocks. SPDs protect your appliances from voltage spikes, extending their lifespan and reliability.
  • Compliance with Current Regulations: Upgrading to a modern consumer unit ensures that your electrical system complies with the latest edition of the BS7671 wiring regulations. This not only provides peace of mind but also can be a requirement for insurance and property sales.
  • Improved Reliability and Performance: Newer consumer units are more reliable and efficient, reducing the likelihood of electrical faults and providing a stable supply of electricity throughout your home.
  • Future-Proofing: Modern consumer units are designed to handle the increasing demands of contemporary households, such as additional circuits for new appliances and technologies.
  • Professional Installation: Our experienced team will ensure that the installation is carried out safely and meets all regulatory requirements, providing you with a certificate of compliance upon completion.
